The Israeli army continued its widespread bombing campaign throughout Lebanon last weekend as its invading force claimed to reach the deepest it has been inside its neighbor to the north—all while the Biden administration has been working on a ceasefire.
Israel continued to carry out its bombing campaign across Lebanon last week—bringing the death toll in the country to 2,710 on the year, with over 12,000 people injured. Over 1.2 million have been displaced.
The Israeli military targeted UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon a dozen times, including one incident that injured 15 UNIFIL troops after they were exposed to white phosphorus, according to a confidential report viewed by the Financial Times.
The death toll across Lebanon surpassed 2,300 and nearly 10,800 people have been injured since the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023.
As Israel increases its attacks on Lebanon, it simultaneously has increased its bombing campaign in Gaza, pushing the death toll up to 42,200, with 98,500 wounded and 11,000 missing. Experts say reconstruction of the enclave could take decades.
Israel is reportedly planning for an ‘imminent’ ground invasion in Lebanon and has been bombing the country to its north to weaken Hezbollah’s resolve. About one million people in Lebanon have been displaced and thousands have fled into Syria as the Israeli shelling continued.
Senior U.S. officials told The New York Times last week that Israel has achieved all that it will accomplish from a military standpoint in Gaza and—while the IDF has severely weakened Hamas, it will not completely destroy the group.
Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent ambassador to the UN, said last week that the U.S.’s decision to bomb Iraq and Syria was “illegitimate, illegal, unjustified, and blatantly violates the basic norms and principles of international law.”
The Biden administration’s latest round of bombings in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq are inadequate and did nothing to deter Iran, U.S. warmongering politicians said.
