The Israeli military made good on Tel Aviv’s promise not to respect the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the U.S. and Iran, and, instead of withdrawing forces from Lebanon, gave orders for troops to head deeper into the country while carrying out new bombings along the way.
Israel ramped up its attacks in southern Lebanon last week and showed no signs of withdrawing, despite claims from the Trump White House that progress had been made in the country.
Israel killed at least 73,066 people inside Gaza and wounded another 173,514 since the genocidal war started in October 2023.
The UN released a report last week that offered a glimpse into the amount of damage that the IDF has inflicted on southern Lebanon since 2 March and found that a total of 11,095 buildings have been destroyed in the region.
Israel Katz, the Israeli defense minister, said last week that the IDF will not withdraw from its strongholds inside Lebanon, despite Iranian demands during peace negotiations with the United States that an end to the war in Lebanon is required for the deal to be approved.
Supporters of Hezbollah in Lebanon, who have been somewhat dismayed at what seemed like Israel’s recent thrashing and the IDF’s ability to occupy much of the Lebanese territory, have seen the tides turn and the armed resistance group appears to be on a winning streak after the U.S. signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran that includes an end to the fighting in Lebanon.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s top diplomat, said Tuesday that the ceasefire deal between the United States and Tehran hinges on whether Israel continues to attack Lebanon because that war has become “connected to the war with Iran, and the two fronts became intertwined and dependent on one another.”
