The United Nations Security Council voted Monday in favor of U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision to install an international stabilization force inside Gaza that will include a coalition of “peacekeepers” from Gulf countries that intend to help secure the enclave and essentially strip security duties from Hamas.

Hamas said that it is committed to honoring the ceasefire deal agreed to earlier this month with Israel, but it is having a hard time locating and retrieving the bodies of about two-thirds of the dead hostages that were taken during the 7 October 2023 attack.

Bezalel Smotrich, the Israeli finance minister, said Thursday that he did not agree with the ceasefire deal that was signed by Hamas and the Israeli government, but said that didn’t matter anyway, because Israel will continue where it left off after it receives the hostages.
