German researchers said the common face mask worn during the COVID-19 outbreak can cause cognitive decline in children, testicular dysfunction, and stillbirths due to the inhalation of toxic-chemical build up in the “dead space between the mouth and mask.”

The Daily Mail, which first reported on the study published in the journal Heliyon, said these researchers cited “circumstantial evidence” that mask use “may be related to current observations of a significant rise of 28 percent to 33 percent in stillbirths worldwide.”

The researchers, who looked into 43 previously published studies on CO2 exposure and pregnancy, also noted the “reduced verbal, motor, and overall cognitive performance of two full standard deviations in scores in children born during the pandemic.”

These researchers say CO2 leads to oxidative stress, which can be harmful for cognition and cause testicular problems. 

The Daily Mail noted that there has been some criticism of the study.

Dr. Stuart Fischer, an emergency care physician in New York, questioned the theory of a toxic buildup because he said the “body adjusts the pH, the acid/base balance very quickly. Respiratory acidosis due to facemasks is unlikely although short-term side effects might affect people with chronic lung disease.”

TRENDPOST: The Daily Mail article noted that the findings dovetail “with a report published by the UK Health Security Agency that concluded ‘no evidence could be presented’ to prove medical-grade face masks protected vulnerable people from COVID at all.”

The Cochrane Review published research from St. George’s Hospital in London that found mask mandates had no impact on the transmission of COVID-19 during the Omicron wave of infections, according to The Washington Examiner. And masks made “no discernible difference” in reducing hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infections at all, the report said.
