GERMANY: NO NUKES, NO U.S. TROOPS

Martin Schulz, leader of the German Social Democrats, said last week that if he wins next month’s election, he will make it clear the U.S. is to withdraw its nuclear arsenal from German territory.

Germany’s Left Party issued the statement: “The presence of U.S. forces in the region is being used to create tensions in relations with Russia.”

There are currently about 20 U.S. nuclear warheads at a base in West Germany.

They said the presence of 35,000 U.S. military troops was “incompatible” with Germany’s constitution, known as the Basic Law, saying that the bases are being used to carry out military operations in the Middle East.
