New U.S. regulations took effect last month that banned exports to China of certain advanced technologies, including some of Nvidia’s AI chips. As a result, Baidu—a leading AI developer in China and creator of the AI named Ernie—has ordered AI chips from Huawei, one of the country’s largest makers of electronics.
