U.S. senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has planned nine “AI Insight Forums” to educate senators about AI, starting this week.
The first seminar is slated to be headlined by Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg.
Also on the roster of presenters for the course: OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman; Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, and former CEO Eric Schmidt; Microsoft boss Satya Nadella; and Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief.
The sessions are intended to help guide legislators in determining whether and how to regulate AI and the best and most important guardrails to impose.
“Humility is our watchword,” Schumer told reporters without a trace of irony. “I look forward to hearing suggestions as to how we can create the best safe innovation anywhere and put it into actuality.”
“We’ll see which [regulations] lend themselves to broader consensus dealing with innovation and safety, and which are harder,” he said.
