As protests continue in Israel in opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s judicial reform package, his government is continuing to carry out attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.
The Trends Journal has reported extensively on how Netanyahu’s fragile coalition government is and how he is living up to Gerald Celente’s warning that “When all else fails, they take you to war.”
WSWS noted that Israel’s attacks on Palestinians seem to coincide with increased political turmoil at home, and it seems as though Netanyahu is “pushing for an all-out confrontation with the Palestinians.”
“The Israel Defense Forces, police, and settler groups are mounting near-daily attacks on towns and villages in the West Bank,” the report said. “These are consciously designed to incite retaliatory attacks and thereby create a climate of fear and apprehension within Israel as means of deflecting explosive social tensions and political opposition to Netanyahu’s government outwards against a “common enemy.”
The website said Netanyahu is also using tensions with Iran, Syria, and Lebanon in “hopes to derail the protest movement opposed to his far-right government’s efforts to grant itself dictatorial powers, and to unite Israelis amid the threat of a wide war.”
Indeed, Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul plans have been met with stiff resistance from the public, and the country has seen some of the biggest protests in its history. The protests continue to expand. Demonstrators projected a large message on the side of the United Nations in New York on Sunday that read, “Don’t believe Crime Minister Netanyahu. Protect Israeli democracy.”
“The slogan projected on the UN building wall is just a small taste of what is awaiting the indicted defendant Netanyahu on his visit to NYC. The fight for Israeli democracy is global,” the protesters said in a statement obtained by The Times of Israel. “We will be waiting to greet him. In the air, on land, and at sea. The whole world will know that Netanyahu is a liar. We will not allow him to disgrace Israel and deceive world leaders with his speeches that have long since become a joke.”
The WSWS report noted that Netanyahu last week tried to lay out the threats that Israel continues to face.
“Hamas and other Iranian proxies understand very well that we will fight with all means against their attempts to promote terrorism against us— in the West Bank, in Gaza, and anywhere else,” he said, according to the report.
He repeated the theme of the message in following discussions and said, “We need to unite our forces against terrorism, against the crime in the Arab sector, and against the external and internal threats that are being organized.”
TRENDPOST: As we have detailed, Israel’s current government is comprised of politicians who have called for the elimination of the Palestinian state.
