AMERICAN SOCIETY UNDER SIEGE
I hear you Gerald! I found the fact a reader wrote a comment referring to your sometimes emphatic language about government bureaucrats or “Ministers” as “potty talk”. Hilarious. Maybe they are the real putz-heads?
I have neighbors just like that who are Very conventional-minded and often reserved (quiet) outside of their immediate family members. In fact, on many occasions I noticed last year they often wore a mask everywhere they went, from the front lawn to trips to the grocery store, even while driving alone. It appeared to be either extreme conformity driven by fear of opprobrium from the community or simply examples or incidences of “virtue signaling”. They want to be seen as compliant and obedient to the government.
Such individuals in my immediate neighborhood often present a totally different “face” to different people from those inside their immediate household, to employees or neighbors, compared to long term associates or friends. The words they use, the degree of personal interest they take, and the way they converse is dramatically different depending upon the particular person a-hand. Generally, not that outgoing or especially friendly amongst even the long term neighborhood residents and with few exceptions. People have generally walled themselves off ever since Covid lock-downs began last year.
