AI WILL REINVENT THE COMPUTER, NVIDIA CEO SAYS

Conventional computer platforms are being outmoded and replaced by AI platforms, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, the company that leads the AI chip market, told a computer graphics conference earlier this month.

The company bet its future on AI several years ago, he noted, and “while we were reinventing computer graphics with artificial intelligence, we were reinventing” the standard general processing chip that computers now use.

“Large language model [AI] is a new computing platform because now the programming language is human,” he said. “For the very first time, after 15 years or so, a new computing platform has emerged.”

Because of AI, “the computer itself will process information in a very different way.”

This also will require a massive expansion of the cloud to hold all of the material AIs generate, he added.“The generative AI era is upon us, the iPhone moment if you will,” Huang said, referring to the transformative effect that Apple’s creation had on mobile computing.
