Farming is no longer relegated to the country. Community gardens are being complemented not only by urban farming enterprises (Trends Journal, Summer 2013) but also by large-scale, grassroots initiatives to re-invent local food systems that also bring jobs, cleaner air and a more pleasant ambience to city neighborhoods. Similar ventures are underway in Washington, D.C. and British Columbia, among other sites.
